Court Grants Nnamdi Kanu Bail – Requests For Three Sureties To Initiate Bail Bond
The Federal High Court of Nigeria sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, 25th April, 2017, has granted bail to leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with three (3) major conditions.
The detained leader of the IPOB was granted bail based on health issues but as we know the bail does not mean that he has been totally freed of his charges.

He is to appear before the court anytime his case is been called open. As a result, he was requested to provide three sureties who will be answerable in any case of flaunting the court’s terms. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been held in police custody over a treasonable offense against the country since October, 14th, 2015. He was immediately arrested by security operatives in Abuja upon his arrival to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.

The judge preceding over the case, Justice Binta Nyako said that the court is granting Kanu bail based on unmentioned health issues. She said that however, the IPOB leader must appear before the court whenever he is called upon. He is to provide three sureties who will sign on his behave for the release. They include;
1. A highly respected and recognized Jewish leader
2. A highly placed and recognized Igbo man or woman and
3. Someone who resides in Abuja and has a landed property

The court requires that each of the three sureties must deposit a sum of 100 million Naira each as the bail bond. In any case of missing or failure to appear before the court, the bond will be fully executed.
In addition, Kanu is required to submit both his British and Nigerian International passports to the court with immediate effect. Also, he is to sign an undertaking to make himself available in the court whenever he is required to.
The leader of the IPOB who is said to have taken over from his master, Chief Odemegwu Ojukwu do not seem to be afraid of this bail conditions as the the court has also directed the Federal to return his wedding ring and reading glasses to him.

Kanu was also seriously warned by the court not appear before any public interview with a section of up to 10 persons or in a rally. “I must stress it here that the defendant must not attend any rally. He must not be in a crowd exceeding 10 persons”, trial justice Nyako said.
Meanwhile, prior to the fulfillment of his bail terms, Nnamdi Kanu is returned to Kuje prison with his co-defendents at the court who were denied bail.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, spoke to the press and journalists after the court sitting on Nnamdi Kanu bail. Many people IPOB and Nigerian leaders are overwhelmed with his speech.
The leader of the IPOB said just little as regards the bail but in the mean time nobody knows whether he is going to accept the bail and its terms. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed and see what happens.
